Nevada Energy Forum Luncheon Thank You
August 16, 2011
We would like to thank all who attended the Nevada Energy Forum Luncheon on Tuesday, August 9th featuring guest speakers Congressman Joe Heck and Energy Expert of the American Petroleum Institute (API), Rayola Dougher. This informational luncheon took place at the M Resort and Casino, and highlighted conversations on America’s energy and resources.
Congressman Heck emphasized the importance of weaning off foreign energy sources, as a matter of both national and economic defense. He also stressed how the nation must focus on three critical areas: fossil fuels, renewable energy and nuclear power. He also said that Nevada, as well as the nation, needs to explore new sources of fossil fuels and develop new technologies to decrease negative effects on the environment.
Dougher focused specifically on gas prices in Nevada. She credited the earlier price jump to stronger global economic growth, which increased demand and prices for crude oil. She talked about crude oil as the biggest driver in fuel costs, as well as other factors that affect oil prices. She also spoke about the positive signs in the Nevada economy, and her hopes for the future of fuel costs and the energy sector as a whole.
We are appreciative of both speakers for taking the time to address the membership. In attendance, we had 75 community business leaders, elected officials and Nevada Energy Forum members, and received many positive responses from our audience. We look forward to hosting our next event in October of this year.
