Energy Myth

Myth:  Raising taxes on U.S. oil and natural gas companies will lead to America being less dependent on foreign oil and encourage use of alternative sources of energy.

Fact: Historically, higher taxes have resulted in less domestic energy – and restrained supplies often lead to higher energy costs for consumers.  In today’s economy, that could stifle a recovery and make Americans more dependent on foreign oil and natural gas. New taxes will make it more expensive for oil and natural gas companies to initiate traditional and alternative energy exploration and development programs, putting our nation further behind in the race for more energy.

Energy plays key role in Obama's State of the Union

For the third year in a row energy played a central role in President Obama's State of the Union address, with the president leaning hard this year on the twin themes of increased domestic oil and gas production and the need to invest more in renewable sources.

Jobs? What jobs?

Instructed by Congress last month to approve or reject the Keystone XL pipeline, which would send Canadian oil to refineries in Texas, President Obama on Wednesday rejected the private-sector project and the thousands of jobs that come with it. The president's own Council on Jobs and Competitiveness issued a "Road Map to Renewal" the day before, recommending the United States build more fuel pipelines as a key component of our economic recovery.

What America is Thinking on Energy Issues - 70 percent of voters favor more oil and natural gas development

Washington, D.C., January 18, 20. Seventy percent of American voters favor increased access to U.S. oil and natural gas resources, and similar numbers believe more oil and natural gas development would provide major benefits to the nation, including more U.S. jobs, according to a new poll released today.

Keystone XL oil pipeline battle has only just begun

When it comes to the fate of the 1,700-mile Keystone XL pipeline, proponents and foes agree that the fight did not end with President Obama's decision Wednesday to reject the pipeline's permit application. The question is how the battle will be waged in the months to come.

Obama administration to reject Keystone pipeline

The Obama administration will announce this afternoon it is rejecting a Canadian firm's application for a permit to build and operate a massive oil pipeline across the U.S. Canada border, according to sources who have been briefed on the matter.
